FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Mowing, billing, leaf timing, insurance and payment.

What is included in a mow?
Mowing at the correct height, string trimming around every obstacle, edging along walkways and the driveway, and blowing clippings off all hard surfaces. Some companies bill trimming and edging separately. I do not, because a lawn is not finished without them.
How often should the lawn be cut?
Weekly during the growing season. Every other week is possible, but the grass grows long enough that it takes more time to cut properly, which is why biweekly service usually costs more per visit rather than less. Weekly customers also receive a fixed day on the route.
Why is pricing given on site rather than over the phone?
Two properties of the same size can represent a 25-minute job and a 55-minute job, depending on slopes, trees, beds and the length of the edging. I would rather walk the property with you and give you a firm figure on the spot than quote low and return asking for more.
Should clippings be bagged or mulched?
Mulched, in most cases. Clippings cut fine and returned to the lawn break down within a couple of weeks and release nitrogen back into the soil, which is free fertiliser for the grass. Bagging is worthwhile on an overgrown first cut, on wet grass that clumps, or simply as a preference. It is available as an add-on rather than the default.
Is leaf removal included?
Both options are available. Bagging and leaving the material at the curb for town collection is the lower-cost choice. If you would prefer the leaves removed entirely, I can haul them away — please mention it at the time of quoting, as it affects the price.
When should leaf cleanup be scheduled?
Before the last leaves have fallen. A wet mat of leaves blocks light and traps moisture against the crown of the grass, and left over a Connecticut winter the result is not raking in spring but reseeding bare patches. Two lighter passes through the season is almost always less expensive, and better for the lawn, than a single large cleanup in late November.
Are you insured?
Yes, general liability. Mowers throw debris, and that risk should not sit with you on your own property. I am happy to provide the certificate on request.
How is payment handled?
Venmo, Zelle, cash or cheque, whichever is most convenient. Payment is due after each visit rather than in advance, and there is no contract to sign.

Send me the property address. I will review it, walk the grounds with you, and provide a firm figure the same day.
